After the representants of the different countries had presented information on the actual powdery scab and mop top situation and also on the past and present research, the participants discussed the most important knowledge gaps in both diseases and pathogens, which are:

Do we face races, strains?

Sampling procedure for soil

Resistance mechanism

Fast and reliable diagnostics (tubers)

Inoculum density vs disease incidence/severity

Soil water relationship

Soil chemistry: zinc, lime, S,N

Microbial density - suppressive soils?

Rotations (sanitation/alternative crops)
